This Ruby Redbird Summer Shandy is a refreshing summer beer cocktail with notes of citrus, ginger, and mint, and lemon. Perfect for hot summer days and backyard BBQs!
Anyone who knows me pretty well knows that I’m not a huge fan of beer. Past a few Michelob Ultras at a college football tailgate, I just really don’t like it. The only other beer I can tolerate is a Shiner Ruby Redbird (a Texas beer, of course). But I still can only drink about a half of one before it gets hot or I get tired of it. Beer just isn’t my thing. Unfortunately, lots of my good friends love going to craft breweries. I’m a pretty cheap date on those outings.
One of my best beer-loving friends made a pitcher of this Summer Shandy last summer and it was super refreshing and delicious. I was surprised to find out that the main ingredient was beer! Can you guess which one? (If you said Ruby Redbird, you’d be correct.)
This Ruby Redbird Summer Shandy is perfect for sipping on while hanging outside on hot days. It’s refreshing and summery without the heaviness of beer, and the grapefruit and ginger notes in the Ruby Redbird go perfectly with ginger beer. The addition of mint gives this beverage a nice taste reminiscent of a Moscow Mule – yum!
If you’re like me and don’t really like beer, but all of your friends do, you should definitely give this Ruby Redbird Summer Shandy a try. I promise it’s way better than beer! I use diet ginger beer to keep it on the lighter side, but you can use regular ginger beer also.
The recipe below is for a pitcher so that you can share with your friends. To make one drink, mix 3 equal parts Ruby Redbird to 1 part ginger beer and add a couple of slices of lemon and a few mint leaves! It’s the perfect light and refreshing summer beverage! Cheers!
