Valentine’s Day is coming up! Whether you are a hopeless romantic who loves to celebrate with flowers and chocolate, or could care less about the day, you can treat yourself to a delicious, healthier sweet treat this Valentine’s Day with a lower-sugar, high protein strawberry cheesecake smoothie!
I’m not always a big fan of smoothies. They can be full of added sugar if you’re not careful when grabbing one on the go. Or they can be just plain gross. Like when your smoothie tastes like grass from adding too many ‘superfoods’ to the blender. I prefer to drink my smoothies as an occasional treat when I’m craving one (which really isn’t often) and to keep them simple. I keep the added sugar low by using fresh or frozen fruit as my main source of sweetness, and I use natural protein sources, like siggi’s skyr, nuts and milk, to avoid a chalky protein powder taste (the worst!).
This festive smoothie is made with only 5 simple ingredients: strawberries, milk, cashew butter, lemon juice, and siggi’s strawberry skry. The cashew butter and siggi’s Icelandic-style yogurt make this smoothie extra smooth and creamy for an indulgent-feeling smoothie that’s naturally protein-rich. The only sugar comes from the strawberries and yogurt, so you get a nice amount of sweetness without sugar overload (since you’ll probably get plenty of that on Valentine’s Day!). The combination provides you protein, fiber, and healthy fat to keep you full and satisfied all morning long.
You would never guess from the delicious taste of this strawberry cheesecake smoothie how simple it is. It tastes like cheesecake (my absolute favorite dessert) in a glass, but without the cream cheese or sugar coma. It’s so creamy and just slightly tangy that you’d swear it was dessert. Which it could be, if you are looking for a healthy dessert option!
If you want to get festive with your smoothie, you can top it with some graham cracker crumbs if you’d like (just don’t blend them in the smoothie or it will be grainy) and a cute yogurt strawberry. To make the one on top of my strawberry cheesecake smoothie here, I just dipped a fresh strawberry in siggi’s vanilla skyr and sprinkled on a few graham cracker crumbs, then placed it in the freezer for a few minutes to harden. So easy and cute!
If you’re looking for a fun, nutritious start to your Valentine’s Day morning, whip up this yummy strawberry cheesecake smoothie to share with your valentine…or to keep all to yourself!
