For a super simple and delicious appetizer that still looks elegant for holiday season, you can never go wrong with crostini topped with cheese and fruit. Pear and blue cheese is a classic combination that's fresh, flavorful, and perfect for the fall and winter!

Why You'll Love Pear and Blue Cheese Crostini

These little bites heave everything you need in one bite: tangy, savory blue cheese, sweet, juicy pears, floral honey and a hint of salt, all on toasty bread. They're simply delicious, and just as easy to make - which we all need during the holidays. Grab your favorite cocktail or glass of wine and you're set!

The Ingredients

  • Baguette - I like a sourdough or whole grain baguette.
  • Blue cheese - If you like a mild blue cheese flavor, pick up Danish Blue or Gorgonzola. Stilton and Roquefort have stronger flavors.
  • Pears - Any variety will work. Pears are ripe and ready to use when the neck is just slightly soft.
  • Honey
  • Sea Salt

How To Make It

  2. Toast baguette slices at 400°F for 8-10 minutes.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: about 15 pieces 1x
  • Category: appetizer
  • Method: baked
  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 baguette (I like whole grain or sourdough)
  • olive oil
  • 1 wedge creamy blue cheese
  • 1 large pear, cored and thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • Coarse sea salt

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 400°F. Slice baguette ¼ inch to ½ inch thick. Place on a baking sheet and drizzle lightly with olive oil.
  2. Toast crostini in the oven for 8-10 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  3. Spread each crostini generously with blue cheese. If your cheese is more crumbly, thinly slice it instead of trying to spread it.
  4. Top piece with 1-2 pear slices, and drizzle with honey.
  5. Sprinkle with sea salt and serve.

Notes

  • These appetizers are best when made right before serving.

Can this be made ahead and stored in the frig until serving?

Hi Kris, I don't recommend making these very far in advance as they're better when the bread is warm. Storing them assembled would likely result in soggy bread and browning pears.
