Mix up your dinner routine with healthy grilled Caesar shrimp burgers! 5-Ingredient shrimp patties are so simple to make, taste great on the grill, and make a delicious burger topped with homemade Greek yogurt Caesar dressing and shaved parmesan. (gluten-free)
I'm sure you've had beef burgers before (unless you're vegetarian, of course) but have you ever had a SHRIMP burger? If not, now's the time to try making them at home! These grilled Caesar shrimp burgers are a fun change-up to your weeknight dinner routine, and the customization options are endless.
Why You'll Love These Caesar Shrimp Burgers
- They're super easy to make. With just 5 simple ingredients and a food processor, the shrimp patties can be prepped in just a few minutes. They cook quickly, too.
- They're made on the grill. (Yum!) That also means cleanup is easier.
- They're healthy! These burgers are made with just shrimp and a few flavorings, so they're loaded with protein without a bunch of other stuff. They're a great way to get more seafood in your diet (and in your kids' diets), since most Americans don't eat enough.
- They taste like a Caesar salad on a bun. Enough said.
Ingredients in Shrimp Burger Patties
The main reason I love these shrimp burgers is that they are made with so few ingredients:
- Shrimp (of course!). Buy the peeled, deveined kind for super quick prep.
- Garlic. Because everything can benefit from a little fresh garlic.
- Lemon Juice
- Green Onion
- Old Bay seasoning. It brings out the best in the shrimp with one simple spice mix. If you're watching the salt, I suggest Marshall's Creek. (You'll want salt-free if you're serving to babies).
- Black pepper, which I don't really count as an ingredient. I tend to go heavy-handed with pepper.
- All topped with Homemade Greek Yogurt Caesar Dressing, lettuce, and finely shaved parmesan cheese!
Do I Need Bread Crumbs? Or A Binder?
Fun fact: Shrimp is actually an excellent binding ingredient. So you don't need any extra bread crumbs or egg to hold these shrimp burgers together. Which makes them almost all shrimp. Yay!
How To Make Shrimp Burgers On The Grill
Most shrimp burgers are cooked indoors. Not these. These grilled Caesar shrimp burgers are grilled outdoors for a delicious smoky taste and easier cleanup. The trick is to freeze the patties before cooking so that they hold their shape on the grill long enough to cook and bind together.
- Combine the ingredients for the shrimp patties in a food processor. Pulse in spurts (not continuously) until the shrimp are chopped but still a little chunky and everything is well mixed.
- Use your hands to form patties. This recipe will make 4 large patties or 5 that are a little bit smaller.
- Place the patties on a plate lined with parchment or wax paper. Place in the freezer until you're ready to grill them, at least 30 minutes to let them firm up.
- If you're making Homemade Greek Yogurt Caesar Dressing, make it while the shrimp patties are in the freezer. (click link for recipe)
- Preheat the grill, then grill the shrimp burgers on medium heat about 5 minutes per side, or until cooked through and grill lines appear.
- Remove from the grill then build your burgers with the toppings of your choice. For these Caesar shrimp burgers, I use whole wheat buns, Caesar dressing, finely shaved parmesan, green leaf lettuce, sliced tomato and thinly sliced red onion.
Tips For Making The Best Shrimp Burgers
- As I stated above, the trick to getting the burgers to stay together on the grill is to freeze them first. 30 minutes to an hour should be plenty of time. Then take them directly from the freezer to the grill without thawing. If you have to stack the patties to put them in the freezer, place parchment or waxed paper between each patty.
- If you don't have a grill, you can make these burgers in a preheated skillet on the stovetop with a bit of oil.
- If you don't care for Caesar dressing, you can serve these with cocktail sauce or tartar sauce, like Mr. Table likes them.
What To Serve With Shrimp Burgers
- Since your grill will already be on, try a side of grilled sweet potato wedges or a grilled veggie like zucchini or asparagus.
- If you want to keep things super simple, go with some fresh cut fruit, like watermelon, or classic potato chips.
- For a cold option, you could serve these shrimp burgers with French-style potato salad, broccoli salad, or a fruity kale salad.
