This post was originally published February 2017 and has been updated.

I'm about to change your life with this recipe. Are you ready for it? Healthy. Brownie. Batter. Dip. That's right, the amazing taste of gooey, chocolately brownie batter in a completely edible dessert dip. AND it's healthy! The secret ingredient? Black beans. But I promise you can't taste them. All you can taste is rich, creamy, brownie-flavored bliss that's the perfect snack or dessert for Valentine's Day (or Galentine's Day), your birthday, any holiday, or just plain because!

Why You'll Love This Healthy Brownie Batter Dessert Dip

  • First of all - EDIBLE BROWNIE BATTER!
  • It's quick and easy. Just blend 7 simple ingredients in the blender or food processor!
  • It's made with pantry staples. No expensive or hard-to-find specialty ingredients here.
  • It's deliciously indulgent. The rich, creamy chocolate taste is heavenly.
  • It's healthy. Eat it as a dessert or a snack!

What Makes This Brownie Batter Dip Healthy?

First of all, you won't die from salmonella because there are no raw eggs or flour. So let's just get that out of the way. But this delightfully rich dessert dip is made with nutrition-packed ingredients like black beans, cottage cheese, and cocoa powder for a powerful punch of fiber, protein, and antioxidants. That means it's more filling and won't give you a sugar crash. It's also sweetened naturally with maple syrup. To make this brownie batter dip completely refined sugar-free, you can use unsweetened dark chocolate or stevia-sweetened chocolate instead of chocolate chips.

How To Make Healthy Brownie Batter Dessert Dip

This edible brownie batter couldn't be easier to make. Simply place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth!

Tips For Making The Best Healthy Brownie Batter Dessert Dip

  • Depending on the speed and power of your blender or food processor, this dip may take a little while to get completely smooth. Just keep blending, it will get there! Stop as needed to scrape down the sides with a spatula, and add more milk if necessary to get a thinner consistency. (I use this Cuisinart food processor, this Vitamix, or this KitchenAid blender)
  • Add the melted chocolate last, and place it on top of the black beans (if they are room temperature) so that it doesn't harden again before you blend it.
  • Canned black beans tend to be softer than beans cooked from dry, so the dip will get smoother with canned beans.

What To Serve With Brownie Batter Dessert Dip

Anything your little heart desires! But here are a few ideas:

  • Just a spoon, straight up.
  • Sliced fruit. I like apples, strawberries, and bananas best.
  • Graham crackers or other thin, crispy cookies (hello, Girl Scout Shortbread Cookies!)
  • Pretzels, for a sweet and salty mix.
  • Fruit 'chips', such as banana chips, apple chips, or coconut chips.
  • Cubes of angel food or pound cake

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup cottage cheese
  • 2 tbsp milk of choice

Instructions

  1. In a high-powered blender or food processor, blend together all ingredients until smooth, stopping to scrape down the sides as necessary. Add more milk if until you want a thinner consistency.
  2. Scoop dip into a bowl and serve with sliced fruit, pretzels, or graham crackers.
  3. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

The comments refer to dates, but I don't see any dates listed in the recipe, which has me scared to try to make it as-is. Am I missing something?

      Hi Karen,

I updated this recipe last year to replace the dates with maple syrup for a smoother consistency. Sorry about the confusion!

Hi! Should dates be fresh or dry dates work as well? And if I used date paste instead, how many tbsp of it?

      Hi Catherine,

I used fresh dates in this recipe. You could probably use about 3 tbsp of date paste and add a little more if you need to! Thanks for stopping by!

Where does the sugar in the ingredients list come from?

      Hi Norma,

The sugar is naturally occurring in the dates. Thanks for stopping by!
