I love trying new ways to prepare vegetables and experimenting with different flavors in side dishes. But sometimes, especially on busy nights when you need to get dinner on the table quickly, simple is best. For times like those, I turn to this recipe time and time again - oven broiled asparagus. Especially when asparagus is in season, fresh and affordable, this recipe really lets the veggie shine.

Why You'll Love This Oven Broiled Asparagus

  • It's incredibly easy. It doesn't require any measuring or even a real recipe. Plus it only takes about 10 minutes and a few simple ingredients that you probably already have on hand.
  • It's delicious! Cooked under the broiler, asparagus gets tender-crisp with just a hint of char.
  • It goes with everything. The simple flavors of garlic and lemon are versatile enough to go with whatever you're cooking tonight!

How To Make Easy Broiled Asparagus

  1. Trim the woody ends off your asparagus and arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  2. Sprinkle with fresh chopped garlic, coarse sea salt, and freshly cracked black pepper, and drizzle with lemon juice and olive oil. Give the pan a little shake to coat the asparagus.
  3. Broil on high for 5-10 minutes, or until the asparagus is bright green and is just starting to char, then remove from the oven. Watch it carefully so it doesn't burn!

Tips For Making The Best Broiled Asparagus

  • This recipe is very forgiving as far as measurements go, so don't worry about getting them exact. Just make as much asparagus as your family will eat. I usually cook one bundle (that comes in the rubber bands from the store).
  • The amount of time it takes so cook will vary depending on your oven, how far the rack is from the broiler, and the size of the asparagus, so make sure you watch it while it's cooking. It can go from perfect to burnt quickly!
  • If you want to keep things really simple, leave out the lemon juice and garlic and just go with salt, pepper and olive oil. Or use garlic powder or any other seasonings you like.
  • For easy cleanup, line your baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
