If you've been around a while, you know I love a good cup of coffee. And while I typically enjoy a very simple cup made with fresh ground, quality beans, I also like a fun, more fancy coffee every once in a while. Think you need a coffee shop to get a flavorful latte or iced coffee? You don't! I've been making my own homemade lattes with easy infused simple syrups for flavor. One of my favorites lately has been this cardamom rose latte. It sounds fancy, but it's really easy to make!

Why You'll Love This Cardamom Rose Latte Recipe

If you enjoy fun flavors in your latte or iced coffee, you've got to try this cardamom rose latte. The delicate, subtle flavor of rose petal paired with complex, spicy herbal cardamom makes the most delicious simple syrup that you can use to make a delicious coffee drink. It's perfect for making a cozy cup when visiting the coffee shop is out of the question.

How To Make Cardamom Rose Simple Syrup

The simple syrup is where the latte gets it's flavor and sweetness. It's super easy to make. If you want to punch up the flavor without increasing the sweetness, decrease the amount of sweetener in the syrup without decreasing any other ingredients. To make it:

    1. Add the honey, water, rose petals and cardamom pods to a small saucepan. Heat the mixture over medium heat. Simmer and stir until the honey is dissolved.
    2. Turn off the heat, cover the pot, and let it steep for 20-30 minutes.
    3. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer (like this one) or cheesecloth into a glass bottle for storage and refrigerate up to 2 weeks. (I like these flip top bottles.)

How To Make A Hot Cardamom Rose Latte

    1. Add very strong coffee or espresso to a mug.
    2. Add 1-2 tablespoons of the simple syrup (to taste).
    3. Add steamed or frothed milk to taste. Stir and enjoy! (I use a little handheld frother like this one.)

How To Make An Iced Cardamom Rose Latte

    1. Add very strong brewed coffee or cold brew to a glass filled with ice.
    2. Add 1-2 tablespoons of simple syrup (to taste).
    3. Add milk to taste. Stir and enjoy!

You'll notice there aren't super specific amounts for these lattes. That's because everyone's tastes are different. You make like a double shot of espresso, or you may like strong coffee. You may prefer more or less coffee, or more of less milk. The amounts I list are just suggested starting points so play with it until you find the right taste for you!

    Ingredient Substitutions & Modifications

    • I like to use honey in the simple syrup, but you can also use sugar if you prefer. If you use sugar, increase the amount to ⅓ cup.
    • Use any kind of milk you like. I prefer dairy milk, but your favorite plant-based milk will work too. Just note that some plant based milks won't froth well. Store bought oat milk usually froths well.
    • If you just want flavored coffee without making a latte, just add 1-2 tablespoons of simple syrup (and milk if you'd like) to your regular cup of coffee.
    • Look for cardamom pods and rose petals in the bulk spice or tea section of your grocery store. If you can't find them, they are available on Amazon. (cardamom linked here, and rose petals here)

    Ingredients

    Scale

    Cardamom Rose Simple Syrup:

    • 2 tbsp rose petals
    • 1 tbsp green cardamom pods
    • ¼ cup honey (or ⅓ cup sugar)
    • ½ cup water

    For Hot Latte:

    • 1-2 shots of espresso (or 4-6 oz strongly brewed coffee)
    • 1-2 tablespoon cardamom rose simple syrup
    • ¼ to ½ cup milk of choice, steamed or frothed

    For Iced Latte:

    • 1-2 shots espresso or 4-6 oz very strong coffee (or cold brew)
    • 1-2 tablespoon cardamom rose simple syrup
    • ¼ to ½ cup milk of choice

    Instructions

    To Make The Simple Syrup:

    1. In a small saucepan combine water, rose petals, cardamom, and honey (or sugar).
    2. Simmer until honey or sugar is dissolved, stirring, about 3-5 minutes.
    3. Remove from heat, cover, and let cool 20-30 minutes.
    4. Strain syrup through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a container with a lid and refrigerate until ready to use.

    To Make A Latte:

    1. Add espresso or coffee to a mug or glass with ice (depending on if you're making a hot or iced latte).
    2. Add simple syrup to taste. Pour in desired amount of milk and stir to combine.

    Notes

    • Simple syrup can be stored in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks.
    • For vegan, use dairy-free milk of choice and use Sugar In The Raw in the simple syrup.
    • Some dairy-free milks do not froth well. Oat milk usually will.
    • If you prefer a less sweet latte, decrease the amount of sweetener in the simple syrup.
    • Play around with the amounts of coffee, simple syrup and milk to suit your taste.
    • Look for cardamom pods and rose petals in the bulk spice or tea section of your grocery store. If you can't find them, they are available on Amazon. (cardamom linked here, and rose petals here)
