When you need a beautiful, easy cocktail, you can't go wrong with this blackberry gin and jam! It's show-stopping, but incredibly easy to make. Cheers!

What is a Gin and Jam?

A gin and jam is just what is sounds like. It's a shaken cocktail made with gin and jam. They can be as simple as just those two ingredients, or slightly more complex, with some versions containing lemon juice, soda, simple syrup and/or flavored liqueurs.

Why You'll Love This Cocktail

The beauty in this cocktail is it's simplicity. No need to make any syrups or muddle anything. Jam adds fruit flavor, sweetness and a pretty color, leaving the need for other ingredients very minimal. I used blackberry jam here, which works beautifully with floral St. Germain and a splash of lemon, but you can easily customize this drink to suit your taste.

How To Make a Blackberry Gin and Jam Cocktail

three image collage showing steps for making a blackberry gin and jam cocktail.
  1. In a shaker with ice, combine gin, St. Germain, jam and lemon juice.
  2. Shake vigorously for 20-30 seconds, then strain into glasses.
  3. Top each glass with a splash of soda.

Tips and Recipe Variations

  • Shake the cocktail well for at least 20 seconds. This serves two purposes - making sure the drink is nice and cold since it is served without ice, and also slightly diluting the gin for a more balanced flavor.
  • I think this cocktail is sweet enough with just the jam, but if you like a sweeter cocktail, feel free to add a splash of simple syrup or agave nectar.
  • For a less stout cocktail, add a little more soda at the end.
  • Use other flavors of jam for endless variations! You can also experiment with switching up the liqueur and citrus.

I had a little bit of leftover jam left in my jar so I added all the ingredients to the jar, closed the lid, shook it up — and WOW! So good! (And food waste-free!)

I don't drink. Do you think it would still work without the alcohol?

Absolutely! You could add a splash of ginger ale, perhaps?
