I have to say, I severely underestimated how hard it would be to do anything with a newborn at home.
My sweet little miss wants to be held all day long, whether she's eating, awake or sleeping. I put her down for 3.5 seconds and it's instant crying. I pick her up and she's happy as a clam. (Usually. Sometimes I pick her up and she still screams for no reason.)
So I do a lot of things one-handed. And that makes them about 10 times harder and takes twice as long. Make the bed? 10 minutes and looks like crap. Put a load of laundry in? 5 trips from the hamper to the washing machine. Make a pot of French press? HAHA…yeah right.
Needless to say, if I want to eat breakfast on weekdays without a major struggle, it better be made ahead. Which means I eat a lot of overnight oats these days. I used to not understand the allure of overnight oats, but as soon as I became a mom, I was hooked. A delicious, healthy breakfast that I can literally grab from the fridge and eat with one hand within one minute? I'm sold!
These black forest overnight oats have been my favorite this summer. Because let's be honest, who doesn't want to eat dessert for breakfast? Creamy dark chocolate overnight oats lightly sweetened with honey, combined with dark sweet summer cherries tastes just like dessert, but it's actually a healthy, filling breakfast!
What I love most about these black forest overnight oats (besides how delicious they are!) is that I can whip up 2 or 3 jars at night when Mr. Table is home to occupy the baby, and in about 5 minutes, I have a nutritious breakfast for a few days waiting for me in the refrigerator on hectic weekday mornings. They really are a complete lifesaver. If you've ever been a new mom, you know what I mean.

Healthy Black Forest Overnight Oats
Black forest overnight oats with creamy dark chocolate oatmeal and dark sweet cherries are an easy, healthy make ahead breakfast that tastes like dessert! (gluten-free, vegetarian)

- ¼ cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
- ½ cup milk of choice
- ½ tbsp dark cocoa powder (I like Dutch processed)
- ½ tsp honey (more or less to taste)
- ½ cup rolled oats
- ½ cup dark sweet cherries, pitted and halved
- In a 16 oz jar, whisk yogurt, milk, cocoa and honey.
- Add oats and cherries. Stir or close the lid and shake.
- Place in the refrigerator overnight or for at least 6 hours.
