It's officially grilling season, which means the majority of our meals are made outside! I love grilling, not only because of the delicious taste of grilled food, but because cleanup is always so much easier. One of my new favorite grilling recipes is this one - grilled fish tacos with strawberry salsa!

Why You'll Love These Fish Tacos With Strawberry Salsa

Flaky grilled white fish coated in a super simple chili cumin spice rub is grilled to perfection and topped with a fresh, spicy-sweet strawberry salsa flecked with fresh cilantro and basil, all wrapped in warm corn tortillas with creamy avocado. They're simply delicious and so perfect for summer. They're also so easy to make with just a few simple ingredients in just 30 minutes, and cleanup is minimal. These fish tacos are also a healthy  dinner with the perfect mix of protein, carbs and healthy fat.

How To Make Grilled Fish Tacos with Strawberry Salsa

These tacos couldn't be easier!

  1. First, make the strawberry salsa. Simply chop all of your ingredients and stir them together in a small bowl.
  2. Mix the spices together for the fish, then rub them on both sides of the fish. Squeeze the lime on top and drizzle with oil, then give it another good rub down to coat both sides.
  3. Grill the fish for 7-10 minutes per side, until the internal temperature reaches 145°F and the flesh is opaque and flakes easily.
  4. Flake the fish into large pieces with a fork, wrap in a warm tortilla, and top with strawberry salsa and avocado.

Tips For Making The Best Grilled Fish Tacos

  • Make sure your grill grates are clean before grilling. Allow the grill to come to temperature before adding the fish.
  • Make sure you let the fish rest undisturbed on the grill until it forms a light crust on the bottom to prevent sticking and the fish falling apart. You can also use a grill mat or a piece of foil on top of the grill grates, or use a fish basket for grilling.
  • To make things even easier, warm the tortillas on the grill by wrapping them in foil and warming them over indirect heat while the fish cooks.

What If I Don't Have a Grill?

If you don't have a grill, you can use a nonstick grill pan on the stove or simply bake the fish in the oven at 350°F for 15-20 minutes!

What To Serve With Fish Tacos

  • No taco night is complete with chips, salsa and guacamole.
  • Open up a can of black beans for a simple side dish, or try my easy refried black beans.
  • Try my cilantro lime quinoa, or make the recipe with your favorite rice.
  • A Mexican-inspired slaw, like this Green Apple Jicama Slaw is a great fresh side dish.

  • Cook Time: 20 min
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Category: main dish
  • Method: grilled
  • Cuisine: Mexican

Ingredients

Scale

For the fish:

  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp garlic
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp freshly cracked pepper
  • 1 lb white fish, such as cod or halibut
  • Juice from ½ lime
  • 1 tsp olive or avocado oil

For the salsa:

  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and diced
  • ½ medium red onion, diced (about ⅔ cup)
  • 1 medium tomato, diced (about ⅔ cup)
  • 1 ¼ cup strawberries, diced
  • 3 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh basil
  • Juice from 1 lime (about 2 tbsp)
  • Pinch salt

For serving:

  • 8 warm corn tortillas
  • Sliced avocado

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine all salsa ingredients. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  2. Heat grill to medium heat.
  3. In a small bowl, combine chili powder, cumin, garlic, salt and pepper. Rub on both sides of the fish, then squeeze lime and drizzle oil over the fish. Rub over the fish to evenly coat it.
  4. Grill the fish directly over medium heat, for about 7-10 minutes per side, depending on thickness. Make sure to leave it undisturbed until the side touching the grill has developed a crust to avoid it falling apart. Alternately, you can use a grilling-specific fish basket, a grill mat, or a piece of foil on top of the grill grates to ensure your fish stays together. Fish is done when the internal temperature reaches 145°F and the inside is opaque.
  5. Remove fish from the grill, flake into large pieces with a fork, and serve on warmed corn tortillas with strawberry salsa and avocado.

Notes

  • Make sure your grill grates are clean before grilling. Allow the grill to come to temperature before adding the fish.
  • Make sure you let the fish rest undisturbed on the grill until it forms a light crust on the bottom to prevent sticking and the fish falling apart. You can also use a grill mat or a piece of foil on top of the grill grates, or use a fish basket for grilling.
  • To make things even easier, warm the tortillas on the grill by wrapping them in foil and warming them over indirect heat while the fish cooks.
