When it comes to entertaining, low effort is my jam. I love serving things that can either be made ahead of time, require little prep work, or don't leave me with a huge mess to clean up. Bonus points if it hits all 3.

This easy berry and chocolate dessert board happens to fit into all 3 categories, and it's just beautiful, too!

Why You Need A Dessert Board This Valentine's Day

Charcuterie boards, and fun twists on them, are trending in a major way right now, and for good reason. Besides making gorgeous displays, they're simply perfect for entertaining because they offer a big variety so that everyone gets something they like, and because they require very little effort. Just arrange all of the elements on a platter and let people graze. There are also no set rules, so you can create a dessert board on the fly with whatever ingredients you have on hand or can find in a hurry. Finally, post-party cleanup is a breeze since you put together everything ahead of time and don't have a ton of dishes to wash!

A classic berries and chocolate theme is perfect for a Valentine's Day dessert board. It's elegant, and more importantly, delicious! It's perfect for sharing with your significant other, your kids, or your girlfriends this Valentine's Day. So chill a bottle of your favorite champagne, and let's get started.

Ingredients For Making a Berry Chocolate Dessert Board

Chocolate (obviously.) Pick 3 or more:

  • Chocolate squares of any kind (I like Ghirardelli assorted flavors)
  • Peanut Butter Cups
  • Chocolate covered caramels
  • Chocolate covered nuts or fruit
  • Chopped chocolate bars in a variety of flavors (milk, dark, white, etc)

Berries. I use all the berries I can find that look fresh! Feel free to use any combination of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries.

Dips and Spreads. Pick 1-3 to keep things fun but easy:

  • Chocolate hummus
  • Brownie Batter Dip
  • Drippy peanut butter or almond butter
  • Chocolate granola butter (if you haven't had it, omg.)
  • Peanut Butter Cup Cheesecake Dip
  • Chocolate syrup or hot fudge

A Couple of Non-Chocolate Things (for dipping and nibbling):

  • Graham crackers
  • Crispy cookies such as shortbread
  • Pretzels, if you want a salty contrast
  • Raw or roasted nuts

What You'll Need To Make a Dessert Board

  • A large board or platter. I always like a marble one (like this one), and American Heirloom makes some beautiful wood boards.
  • Small bowls and spoons for your dips.
  • Dessert plates and napkins (optional)

How To Make A Berry Chocolate Dessert Board

  1. Gather all of your ingredients. Make sure berries are washed and dried.
  2. Place all of your dips/spreads in little bowls and place in various areas on the serving board.
  3. Place groups of different chocolates, berries, and cookies or crackers around the board. Fill in any gaps with small, round pieces such as blueberries or nuts.
  4. Serve!

Can Dessert Boards Be Made Ahead of Time?

Absolutely! Part of the beauty of dessert boards is that they can easily be assembled ahead of time. Just place the assembled board in the refrigerator, and let it come to room temperature for at least 30 minutes before serving.

I hope you enjoy this berry and chocolate dessert board! What's one thing you would absolutely have to include on yours?
