Converting Grams to Ounces

What Is a Gram ?

A gram is a metric unit that measures the mass or weight of something. It is equal to 1,000 milligrams or 1/1,000th of a kilogram. It is often abbreviated as g in recipes. When measuring ingredients for a recipe, it's important to use the correct amount since too much or too little can alter the taste and texture of the final dish. A kitchen scale is essential for measuring ingredients using grams.

What Is an Ounce?

An ounce is a unit of mass or weight in the imperial system of measurement. It is equal to 1/16th of a pound. It is also expressed with the abbreviation oz. You must use a kitchen scale to measure ingredients in ounces.

It's important to note that an ounce is not the same as a fluid ounce. An ounce measures weight while a fluid ounce measures volume. But some recipes will say ounces when it means fluid ounces.
