Pears are one of my favorite fall fruits, so when the season rolls around and I see the first pears appear in stores, I snatch them all up! Of course, in my over-excitement, I almost always grab more than I can eat before they go bad, so I have to decide what to do with them because I refuse to waste food. These cinnamon sautéed pears are the quickest, easiest way to use up any extra pears I have!

Why Sauté Extra Pears?

Cooking produce that won't last much longer is a great way to extend its life just a bit longer, and it may be the difference between having to toss it and getting to eat it. Cooking also helps you get maximum enjoyment out of the fruit that may not be the best for eating raw anymore if it's bruised or has started to get a little soft.

Why You'll Love These Cinnamon Sautéed Pears

These cinnamon sautéed pears are not only great for reducing food waste, but they are absolutely delicious! The warm cinnamon flavor with the natural sweetness of the caramelized pears is the perfect fall treat to go on literally anything. And because they are naturally so sweet, they don't need any added sugar, so they're healthy and baby-friendly, too!

How To Make Cinnamon Sautéed Pears

  1. Peel, core and slice pears ¼ to ½ inch thick.
  2. Heat oil in a skillet over medium low heat. Add the pears, cinnamon and water.
  3. Stir and cover. Cook, stirring every once in a while, until pears are soft.
  4. Serve immediately, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 4 days.

What To Eat With Cinnamon Sautéed Pears

I like to top my morning oats with these cinnamon sautéed pears and add a handful of walnuts for some crunch. They are also delicious on yogurt bowls, over pancakes in place of syrup, added to salads or grain bowls, or on top of ice cream. They add a cozy fall touch and extra fiber boost to so many dishes, without any added sugar.

If you're a pear hoarder like me and end up with too many, try these cinnamon sautéed pears, asap! And if you're not a pear hoarder, start buying extra pears so you have every excuse to make this yummy topper.

  • Category: side dish
  • Method: stovetop
  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large pears
  • 2 tsp oil (I like to use coconut or avocado oil)
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Peel, core and slice pears into ½-inch slices.
  2. Heat oil in a skillet over medium low heat.
  3. Add pears, water and cinnamon. Stir.
  4. Cover and cook, stirring every once in a while, until pears are softened and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 4 days.
  • Leave the peel on for more fiber and less prep work, if you'd like.

I made these and added some red cinnamon hots and let them melt as the pears cooked. Delicious and made the pears look beautiful with a reddish blush. Also added a little more flavor to the the syrup which was great over vanilla ice cream!

Tried them on top of pancake and then in dessert with greek yogur. The coconut oil was overpowering and not a pleasant experience. I'll stick with just poaching so I‘ll keep looking. I can't recommend this recipe.

Prefect, thank you for sharing this! I bought a ton of pears recently but they were not the soft ones so was disappointed that they were going to go to waste. This was great and delicious!

Just wonderful! I left them with skins on, used coconut oil and drizzled a bit extra cinnamon at every toss. What a great topper for my fermented oatmeal and so easy. My husband will be so impressed and delighted when he wakes up for breakfast♡
