How to Make Classic Tomato Bruschetta

Bruschetta is a quick and fresh Italian appetizer made with toasted bread, garlic, tomatoes, basil, and olive oil. It's easy to prepare and perfect for summer snacks or entertaining.

This classic tomato bruschetta comes together in just 20 minutes, making it an easy appetizer for any occasion. With a handful of fresh ingredients ripe tomatoes, olive oil, rustic bread, garlic, sea salt, and basil you can serve up four flavorful portions with minimal prep and cook time.

Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 medium ripe tomatoes, chopped
  • 4 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 4 slices rustic Italian or Tuscan bread
  • 2 garlic cloves, halved
  • Flaky sea salt
  • Fresh basil, chopped

Instructions:

  • Marinate Tomatoes: In a bowl, combine chopped tomatoes with 2 tablespoon olive oil. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  • Toast Bread: Grill or toast bread slices until golden and crisp.
  • Rub Garlic: Rub each slice with the cut side of a garlic clove while still warm.
  • Assemble: Top bread with marinated tomatoes. Sprinkle with sea salt and basil.
  • Finish: Drizzle with the remaining olive oil and serve immediately.

Optional Variations

  • Fettunta: Skip tomatoes and just use garlic and olive oil.
  • Add-ons: Try toppings like anchovies, mozzarella, oregano, or cannellini beans.
