Healthy Instant Oatmeal Packets

With the start of a new year, I know many of you are trying to develop healthy habits and set goals. I'd encourage you to make breakfast a priority if you've set a healthy eating goal.

One of my favorite ways to start every day is with a delicious, nourishing breakfast. I always make sure to wake up early enough to prepare something to eat before heading out the door, as I've been doing for years. Eating a healthy breakfast is absolutely necessary for me to stay energized and focused all morning.

Why You'll Love These DIY Instant Oatmeal Packets

Sometimes we all need a little help getting out the door on time in the mornings. That's why I've created these simple DIY healthy instant oatmeal packets for you. They're:

  • Healthier than the store bought kind. No added sugar, sodium or preservatives!
  • Economical. Making your own packets is so much less expensive per serving.
  • Easy. Just add your ingredients to a container and you're ready to pour and eat in the morning! Make 5 to 10 at a time for meal prep made simple!

How To Make Instant Oatmeal Packets

  1. Add oats, flaxseed, fruit, nuts, and spices to a jar or bag.
  2. Seal containers and set aside until you're ready to eat!

How To Prepare Your DIY Oatmeal Packets

  1. Add ¾ cup hot water to the contents of the packet and stir.
  2. Cover and let the oats stand for 2-3 minutes, then stir and enjoy!

What are the Best Oats To Use For Instant Oatmeal?

I like to use quick oats for instant oatmeal packets. They are typically the ones that say they take one minute to cook on the package, but a soak in hot water for a few minutes is enough to 'cook' them! If you come across plain instant oats, you are more than welcome to use those, too!

Save time and money on breakfast in the mornings with this customizable healthy instant oatmeal packet recipe! (gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free)

  • Author: Kaleigh
  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x
  • Category: breakfast
  • Method: stovetop
  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup quick oats
  • 1 tsp ground flaxseed
  • 1 tbsp dried fruit (blueberries, bananas, apples, raisins, etc)
  • 1 tbsp nuts (almonds, pecans, walnuts, etc)
  • ½ tsp cinnamon or other spices (optional)

To prepare oatmeal:

  • ¾ cup hot water
  • ½ tsp vanilla or almond extract (optional)
  • preferred sweetener to taste (optional)
  • yogurt or milk as needed for creamier oatmeal

Instructions

  1. In a jar, reusable bag or other container, combine oats, flaxseed, fruit, nuts, and any spices.
  2. Once you are ready to eat, add  hot water to oat mixture in a bowl or in the container.
  3. Cover and let rest for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Uncover, stir in any additional ingredients if you'd like (vanilla extract, honey, yogurt or milk) and enjoy!

Notes

  • If you're using glass containers, place a wooden spoon in the jar while pouring hot water in to dissipate the heat - this will prevent the glass from shattering.
