August is ALS awareness month, but this August, I won’t be dumping a bucket of ice on my head. And I’ll tell you why. Because I’ve been challenged to Bake to Defeat ALS.
For those that aren’t familiar, ALS is an unmerciful disease that strikes a chord very close to my heart. My Aunt Debby is the reason I do so many things that I do. She is where I get my knack for canning jam and my strong Tex Mex tendencies. She taught me to bait a hook, mkae an apple pie, and was my mentor in Christ. I have so many wonderful memories with her to hold on to closely. My entire family watched helplessly as my dear aunt, who was once such a vibrant, loving, and giving woman, suffered unfairly at the hand of a disease with no known cause and no known cure. YET. I’m on a mission to help change that.
That’s why I am getting out my KitchenAid and going to Bake to Defeat ALS. My cousin (who is a fantastic baker) sent me this challenge, and I fully accept! Since I have not monetized my blog, this is how I will raise money to donate:
- Readers are pledging to donate for every treat I bake and post for the month of August. To make a pledge, send me an e-mail at [email protected] or simply leave a comment.
For every re-post of my baking on social media, I will personally donate to the ALS Association. This includes Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. So make sure to re-post and tag me so I know! And use the hashtag #BakeToDefeatALS.
I’m challenging you. I’m calling on all of my bakers, bloggers, and non-bakers too, to help me raise money for this cause. Share with all of your friends! For ideas on how you can complete the challenge, visit baketodefeatals.com.
To learn more about ALS, visit alsa.org. Get ready to have some yummy recipes to add to yor box, and see some money go out to a good cause, because my oven is fired up! I hope you will put on your oven mitts and join me in fighting ALS. As for the ice bucket, I’m delegating all bucket challenges to my dad! 🙂
